This book is the first of its kind to offer a comprehensive and
up-to-date discussion of the use of nanoscale materials for
biomedical applications, with a particular focus on drug delivery,
theragnosis and tissue regeneration. It also describes in detail
the methods used in the preparation of nanoparticles. Response of
nanoparticles in biological systems are also explored.
Nanotechnology has led to the advent of a new field, nanomedicine,
which focuses on the use of nanomaterials as drug-delivery vehicles
to develop highly selective and effective drugs. The combination of
molecular imaging and nanotechnology has produced theragnostic
nanoparticles, which allow the simultaneous detection and
monitoring of diseases. Nanotechnology can also be combined with
biomaterials to create scaffolds for tissue regeneration. Further,
significant advances have been made in the areas of drug delivery,
theragnostic nanoparticles and tissue regeneration materials. Some
nanomedicines and tissue regeneration materials are already
commercially available, while others are undergoing clinical
trials, and promising results have been documented. Despite the
rapid advances in nanomedicine, there is a relative dearth of
literature on the biomedical applications of nanoscale materials.
Current Developments in Biotechnology and Bioengineering: Synthetic
Biology, Cell Engineering and Bioprocessing Technologies covers the
current perspectives and outlook of synthetic biology in the
agriculture, food and health sectors. This book begins with the
basics about synthetic biology and cell engineering, and then
explores this in more detail, focusing on topics like applications
of synthetic biology, industrial bioprocesses, and future
perspectives. Information on cell engineering is also presented,
and manipulation in endogenous metabolic network is studied
alongside advanced topics such as fine tuning of metabolic
pathways, de novo biosynthetic pathway design, enzyme engineering
targeted to improved kinetics and stability, and potential
applications of the novel biological systems in bioprocess
technology to achieve the production of value-added compounds with
specific biological activities.
The book provides an insight into if not all but at least into the
burning issues and themes of sociological research in the society
of Jammu and Kashmir. It offers a broad spectrum of topics so that
scholars from the field of sociology and anthropology may take some
help to devise new topics and undertake appropriate research
techniques while dealing with different social settings throughout
the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The book as we hope will serve as a
guide to scholars particularly in sociology for further research by
giving them an idea about the most suited research tool and design
for their studies.
In by-product coke oven battery, pulverized coal blend cake is
carbonized in a series of coking chambers. Each cake of coal blend
is contained between two heating walls in which number of inverted
U-shaped flue ducts are embedded. Heat generated due to combustion
of gaseous fuel in the flue duct is utilized for carbonization of
coal. As the direction of flue gas changes periodically after every
30 min, and the twin coal beds on either side of heating wall are
at 10 h heating lag, thermal dynamics set in the gas and walls.
Numerical study of process transients reveals that positional gas
temperature in the flue duct oscillates with flow reversal. The
maximum and minimum temperatures show a rising trend with flow
reversal during coking cycle. The temperature at the inner walls
and outer walls of the flue duct show periodic rise and fall with
the flow reversal, and show drastic drop at the time coke is pushed
out. Similar characteristics are observed for wall surfaces facing
coke bed, but local oscillation is almost damped out.
Nowadays wireless technologies are developing faster and faster.
Also the need for constantly high-speed Internet has lead to
development of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access
(WiMAX or IEEE 802.16).WiMAX is a standards-based wireless
technology that provides solutions to the "last mile" problem of
Wireless Access. IEEE 802.16 is a new protocol that is being
ratified now, and its security background and structure are under
question. There are various security vulnerabilities is still
exists in MAC layer as well as in physical layer of WiMAX. This
book is going to address standard architecture and security aspects
of WiMAX. In short, I expect this book to be of great use to
practicing engineers, managers and executives, graduate students
who want to learn about WiMAX, undergraduates who want to learn
about wireless communications.
